Measuring for a live edge coffee table
By Typhoon Wood Design · Updated October 5, 2026
Natural edges make every table different. Plan the footprint as carefully as the look.

Map out the footprint
Measure the open space around your seating in inches. Mark the proposed tabletop outline on the floor with paper or removable tape. Check that you can move comfortably around it and reach the table from your seats.
Understand our slab sizes
Round wood slices are approximately 15.7–23.6 inches across (40–60 cm). Long slices can reach approximately 55.1 × 9.8 inches (140 × 25 cm) and can be used for narrow custom table designs. These are material ranges, not a promise that every dimension is always available.
Ask how the edge is measured
An organic tabletop may have a widest and narrowest point. Ask for both measurements and a top-down photo of the actual piece. Confirm the finished table height, base design and usable surface before purchase.
Think beyond the tabletop
Share your preferred finished height and flooring type. Confirm base dimensions, assembly requirements and what arrives in the package. A room visualization is inspiration, not a dimensional drawing.
Choose the wood with confidence
Reference photos show the design direction. Grain, color, cracks and outline can differ between pieces. Review the proposed wood photos and measurements before approving production.
