Custom Wood Furniture: What to Check in Approval Photos
By Typhoon Wood Design · Updated October 5, 2026
Ordering custom wood furniture starts with understanding the actual piece. Use this checklist to review wood-selection and finished-product photos.

Use the reference to describe a direction
A reference photograph communicates shape, finish and overall feeling. It does not guarantee identical grain, color or edges. Our collection includes original product photography and some real products shown in illustrative rooms. Room styling is inspiration; the actual wood-selection photographs are what you should review for your order.
Start by identifying your priorities. You might prefer an irregular outline, a warm wood tone or a particular resin color. Naming these preferences makes the discussion more useful than asking for a percentage match to another piece.
Review the wood before production
Check that the proposed dimensions match the agreed request. For an irregular slab, ask about both the widest and narrowest points. Look at visible knots, openings and natural contours, and ask how features will be treated in the finished design.
If a detail is unclear, request another angle or a close-up before approving. Keep the agreed photos and dimensions with your order. At Typhoon Wood Design, production starts after wood approval. If you do not approve the wood and no alternative is agreed before production begins, our policy provides a full refund.
Review the finished piece separately
A finished-product review serves a different purpose from choosing the raw wood. Compare the final piece with the agreed design and dimensions. Review the base or suspension, visible finish and any custom details you requested. For lighting, confirm the practical specifications separately rather than relying on pictures alone.
We send finished-product photos for approval before shipment. Silence is not approval, and an item is not shipped without that confirmation. Raise any unresolved question before giving your approval so it can be discussed while the piece is still with the maker.
Plan the timeline around both approvals
Our typical production estimate is about one week after wood approval. Express shipping is estimated at around two days after dispatch, subject to the route and delivery conditions. These are estimates, and time spent selecting or approving the wood comes before production.
Use the custom-order form to share the piece you want, measurements in inches and wood preference. Read our refund policy and terms before ordering. The conversation should leave you with a clear record of the design, price and next step.
