Choosing a Live Edge Chandelier for a Dining Table
By Typhoon Wood Design · Updated October 5, 2026
Plan a live edge chandelier around your dining table, ceiling and sightlines. Here is what to measure and confirm before requesting a custom piece.

Start with the table and the room
Write down the dining table length and width, ceiling height and available ceiling connection location in inches. Include a photograph showing the whole dining area. A close-up of a favorite chandelier helps explain style, but the wider room view helps explain how it needs to fit.
For a long dining table, a linear wood silhouette may be a useful starting point. For a more compact arrangement, a round or irregular slab creates a different emphasis. Treat these as design directions; the final choice depends on the actual available wood and room measurements.
Separate slab size from overall hanging height
The wood dimensions and the overall drop are different measurements. Pendant cords and bulbs can extend below the slab, and suspension hardware adds distance above it. Confirm the lowest point of the complete fixture rather than measuring the wood alone.
Consider seated sightlines and how people move around the table. Ask a qualified installer to review the planned position, ceiling support and installation requirements. A lifestyle image cannot confirm mounting suitability or electrical compatibility.
Choose the lighting details before production
Discuss pendant or inset lighting, the number of light sources and the appearance of the suspension. Ask which bulbs or light sources are included, the electrical rating, total weight and whether the selected components support your intended dimmer. Do not infer certifications from product photography.
Our long raw slabs may reach approximately 55.1 by 9.8 inches, subject to availability. That material range is not a guaranteed finished fixture size. Select a confirmed option or request a size discussion before ordering.
Approve the character of your actual piece
Natural contours, grain and visible features differ from slab to slab. Tell us what draws you to a reference: a broad round outline, a narrow profile, expressive grain or the contrast of black cords against wood. The proposed piece can then be discussed using actual photos and measurements.
Production begins after wood approval. Finished-product photos require a separate approval before shipment. Use the custom-order form below to share your dining table measurements and room details, or explore the related lighting pieces when available.
